Oak Hill School Community,
Oak Hill families take great pride in the distinctive qualities that set our school apart from other independent and public schools in the area. Perhaps you invest in Oak Hill because we preserve what we feel is sacred to educating the whole child – rigorous academics, small class size, arts education, character development, physical fitness, global awareness, and outdoor education; or maybe your choice is based on the small, warm, and dynamic school community that allows individualized education for every student. Together, we strive to realize our mission to provide “the best K-12 education, creating caring and responsible critical thinkers,” and you are crucial in this endeavor.
Beginning Tuesday, September 30th, Oak Hill School will launch our 4-week Annual Fund campaign with the goal of raising $170,000 for our operating fund, and reaching 100% community participation. The Annual Fund is our primary fundraising vehicle and includes current parents, grandparents, alumni, alumni parents, faculty, staff, and friends of our school. We have a proud tradition of 100% participation from our board, faculty, and staff, and 97-98% from our parent body. This year, let’s all band together and ensure our continued success:
100% of our community, 100% goal, and fast – in just 29 Days
Tuition alone does not cover the true cost of education at Oak Hill. We rely on your Annual Fund gift to help us cover the “gap” between what we earn from tuition and what an Oak Hill School education truly costs. We do not have a large benefactor or government underwriting us. We do not have a budget surplus. Oak Hill School is a nonprofit organization, and we hope that you will make your school a philanthropic priority. The Annual Fund is a critical part of our operating budget, and we must meet or exceed our goal of $170,000 to deliver on our promise of continued excellence. Please contribute to the best of your ability; every gift is an investment in your child’s education and every gift matters.
Please anticipate regular communication over the next four weeks including emails, Greengram messages, and personal phone calls. Board members will be available to answer your questions throughout the drive – you will see them serving coffee at drop off and pick up times. As a special thank you for your commitment to Oak Hill School, all pledges received by October 24th will be entered into a drawing for a Kindle generously donated by a trustee. Early participation will ensure that we reach our goal of 100% participation and $170,000 in just four weeks. Thank you in advance for investing in our wonderful school and in the future of your exceptional student.
Head of School
P.S. Please join us for our board-hosted Annual Fund Party on Wednesday, October 29th from 5-7 pm in the Sarkisian Hub of the McGehee Building to celebrate the success of the campaign! We will have wine and hors d’oeuvres to share, and all are welcome.
What is the Annual Fund?
The Annual Fund is Oak Hill School’s annual giving campaign that raises critical philanthropic dollars to support the operations of the School. It is Oak Hill’s number one fundraising priority.
Our tuition accounts for approximately 85% of the true cost of educating a student at Oak Hill. Annual Fund dollars make up the difference. Every independent school in the country relies on annual fund dollars to “fill the gap” as well.
Why should I give to the Annual Fund?
Put simply, your Annual Fund donation makes the promise of an Oak Hill School education possible. Oak Hill School is committed to providing the best K-12 education, creating caring and responsible critical thinkers. At Oak Hill, we offer your student the advantages necessary to transform today’s young minds into tomorrow’s leaders. Year after year, our students excel in academics, chess, debate, theater, art, music, and athletics; and they are accepted into high quality colleges and universities. These are quality performance indicators of the Oak Hill experience, yet the pressure of our operating budgets makes these achievements increasingly more challenging each year. By providing needed funds, gifts to our Annual Fund have an immediate, tangible impact on students, faculty and programs at every level of the Oak Hill experience.
Why is the Annual Fund Necessary?
As a nonprofit, independent school, Oak Hill develops its own program and curriculum. This means that our school operates without financial support from the federal or state government agencies, and is self-governed by a Board of Trustees. Unlike public schools, which are funded by tax dollars, independent schools rely solely upon tuition revenue and philanthropic gifts to meet operating and capital expenses.
The Annual Fund bridges the gap between tuition and what it actually costs to educate each Oak Hill student. Tuition only covers 85% of the actual cost of the Oak Hill experience for your child. The Annual Fund enables Oak Hill School to provide an exceptional learning experience for each student. We look to our alumni, parents, grandparents, and friends to help offset the cost associated with the high quality education that Oak Hill School provides.
How much should I give?
When families receive their enrollment contracts for the upcoming school year, they are asked to consider an Annual Fund contribution of at least $2,500/child. However, we do realize that some families and individuals have a larger or smaller budget for philanthropy. Every gift is an investment in your child’s education, and every gift matters.
Is it true that 100% of Oak Hill community gives to the Annual Fund?
We encourage every family to give to the best of their ability and are proud to state that our participation rates over the last 3 years from our faculty, staff, and Trustees is 100%, and 97-100% from our current families.
Where do my dollars go?
Your investment in the Oak Hill School Annual Fund provides the operating budget with unrestricted money that is used in the current fiscal year to support the school’s highest priorities. This includes, but is not limited to:
· Enhancing academic and co-curricular programming.
· Attracting and retaining the finest faculty and staff, while maintaining low student/teacher ratios.
· Sustaining the operation and maintenance of our campus.
The greatest strength of these funds is that they enable the school’s Administration and Board of Trustees to react quickly to our students’ needs on a daily basis with a degree of financial flexibility. The Annual Fund accounts for approximately 7% of the school’s operating budget each year, with additional funds coming from restricted donations, small fundraisers, fees and the Annual Auction Gala.
Is there a deadline for Annual Fund?
At Oak Hill, we have a tradition of concentrating all of the communication regarding the Annual Fund drive during a four-week period in the early fall, instead of it being a yearlong affair. This year, the Annual Fund campaign begins on Tuesday, September 30th and is completed with the Annual Fund Party, hosted by the Board of Trustees, on October 29th, 2014. We prefer all gifts to the Annual Fund to be made within this time frame, but payments can be made in installments for the 2014-2015 school year until June 30th. Our goal is to encourage 100% participation as early as possible to ensure a successful year.
